Frequently asked questions
Tangy Moments is a voice-first memoir app designed to help older adults capture and preserve their life stories. You speak naturally — just as you would in conversation — and the app turns your words into a beautiful, organized memoir that your family can read and treasure.
Think of it as a friendly guide that sits with you, asks you gentle questions about your life, and quietly writes everything down. The result is a real book — your book — telling your story in your own words.
Tangy Moments is designed to be as simple as possible. If you can tap a button and speak, you can use this app. All the complicated work — listening, transcribing, organizing, writing — is done automatically.
Tangy Moments works on any modern web browser — on your phone, tablet, or computer. No app download is required. You can also record via WhatsApp or Telegram if you prefer.
There is nothing to download from an app store. Tangy Moments runs in your web browser — just open app.tangy.nz and sign in. It is always up to date automatically, with no installations or updates to worry about.
On a phone or tablet, you can add it to your home screen so it looks and feels just like a regular app. Ask a family member to help you do this if you would like the shortcut.
Click Record in the navigation bar. The AI guide will greet you warmly and ask you an opening question — something like “Tell me about where you grew up” or “What is your earliest happy memory?”
You simply speak as if you are chatting with a patient friend. The AI listens carefully and asks follow-up questions to help you go deeper. When the session ends, the app automatically picks out the individual memories from your conversation, organizes them under the right themes, and adds them to your collection.
If recording is not working you might have not given your browser the permission to do so, you should get a pop up with something like app.tangy.nz wants to use the microphone, make sure yo select “While visiting the site”

Yes. If you have already recorded yourself telling a story — on your phone’s voice recorder, a WhatsApp message you sent to family, or any audio file — you can upload it directly from the Moments page.
The app will listen to the recording and extract memories from it, just as if you had spoken live. This is a great way to use stories you have already told.
Yes. If you have already written parts of your life story — in a Word document, a PDF, a letter, or any text file — you can upload it from the Moments page. The app reads your words and turns them into memories, organized by theme.
Old diaries, letters, family histories, even notes jotted on paper that a family member has typed up — all of it can be brought in this way.
Absolutely. Go to the Memories page and click the button to write a memory. A text box will appear — type as much or as little as you like, choose a theme, and save. It is added to your collection straight away.
There is no required length. A session can be as short as five minutes or as long as an hour — whatever feels comfortable. Most people find that 15 to 30 minutes is a natural, enjoyable length. It is better to have many shorter sessions than to try to cover everything at once.
The AI is very good at picking out the meaningful parts of what you say, even if you go off on a tangent or repeat yourself. You do not need to speak in complete sentences or stay perfectly on topic.
If a memory has been captured with wording you are not happy with, you can always edit it afterwards on the Memories page.
After each recording session, the app uses artificial intelligence to listen to everything you said and identify the distinct moments, stories, and facts within it. Each one is turned into a short, clearly written memory and filed under the most appropriate theme — automatically, within a minute or two of your session ending.
Yes, you have full control. On the Memories page, click any memory to open it. You will see options to edit the text or delete the memory entirely. Deleting is permanent, so the app will ask you to confirm before removing anything.
Every memory is organized under one of six themes, Memories are sorted automatically, but you can change the theme of any memory by editing it:
- Reflections — Values, beliefs, lessons learned, hopes, wisdom
- Childhood — Early years, family home, school days, growing up
- Family — Parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, family traditions
- Love — Romance, marriage, partnerships, deep friendships
- Work — Careers, jobs, businesses, vocations, achievements
- Places — Homes, towns, countries, travels, places that meant something
